The Putuoshan Mountain is located east of the Hangzhou Bay and faces Shanghai and Ningbo across the sea. It is one of the four largest mountains of Buddhism in China, one of the first national-level key scenic resorts and historic sites publicly announced by the State Department, national AAAA level tourist area, a national civilized and hygiene mountain and the sole ISO14000 national demonstration zone in Zhejiang Province. Reputed as “A Sacred Buddhist Mountain” and “A Sacred Site in South Sea”, it is the most famous and 灵异 Buddhist site of Kwan-yin in the country. Temples stand in great numbers on the mountain with strong Buddhist atmosphere. During the period of great prosperity, there are three temples, 88 Buddhist convents, 128 thatched houses and more than 4000 monks on the whole mountain. It is called the “first Buddhist kingdom in Zhendan”.

There are luxuriant trees and ancient camphor trees everywhere on the island with singing birds and fragrant flowers. It is reputed as “A Botanical Garden on the Sea Island”. Though the whole island only covers an area of 12.5 square kilometers, the scenic spots are narrowly distributed. It can be said that “there are views everywhere” and in the eyes of conscientious persons, it can also be said “there are Buddhist views everywhere”. Every stone, every mountain cave, every leave and every wave here, even cool breeze, bright moon, white cloud and multi-colored sunlight in the sky, and sing birds, fragrant flowers, flowing spring and clean water among the forests can communicate with the heart of the Buddha. There is a kind of spiritualism running through them. We linger here, watching the body, the world, the sound and the color, and therefore our hearts get purified.

Tips:The scenic spots of the Putuoshan Mountain are relatively widely distributed. Therefore, it is more economical to charter a bus for groups. The fare for 18-seat ordinary medium-sized bus is 480 yuan/ day, for 24-seat Suzu air-conditioned medium-sized bus 850 yuan/ day and for Satana car 600 yuan/day. The off season and on season of tourism are remarkable in the Putuoshan Mountain. The price is negotiable in the off season. If you charter a bus for one day, you can choose the following regular scenic spots for a tour: 1. Go to the ropeway station and go up to the Huiji Temple by the ropeway. 2. After taking a tour around the Huiji Temple, go back by the ropeway and go to the Fayu Temple. 3. Go to the Puji Temple. 4. Go to the Purple Bamboo Forest to see the South-sea Kwan-yin. 5. Go back to the wharf or hotel. The Puji Temple, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple are the three temples on the Putuoshan Mountain. The Purple Bamboo Forest is a scenic area with six scenic spots, including the Purple Bamboo Forest Buddhist Temple, the Reluctant to Leave Kwan-yin Temple, the Standing Buddha of South Sea Kwan-yin, all of which is the essence of the Putuoshan Mountain.
