The programming protection area of the Hometown of Lu Xun covers 51.57 ha, among which 28.9 ha are kernel protection area; the total amount of investment is up to one billion RMB. It include five functional districts: the exhibition district of the habitation of Lu Xun’s youth, containing Ancestral Residence of Lu Xun, Residence of Lu Xun and Sanwei Study; the exhibition district of marketplace life of Shaoxing in the later Qing Dynasty and earlier Ming Dynasty and characters and scenes in the works of Lu Xun; the exhibition district of the research in Lu Xun culture; traditional commercial district of Shaoxing and tourist service district.
After the protective construction and restoration for a couple of years, Hometown of Lu Xun starts to take shape. It keeps the residence, ancestral residence, Sanwei Study and Baicao Garden where Lu Xun had made footprint; restores a set of old houses and sites related to Lu Xun, including the new Tai gate of Zhou Family, Tai gate of Shou Family, Tugu Temple and customs garden etc; builds lots of buildings existing in the works of Lu Xun, such as Xianheng dinkery, Tazi Bridge, Changqing Temple and Hengji hockshop etc, which truly present before people. Besides, there are more than ten typical Tai gates built in the later Qing Dynasty and earlier Ming Dynasty here; the snaky and traditional residential area surrounds the place. In the May 2004, Lu Xun Memorial of Shaoxing was topped off in his hometown, which was a symbolic building built according to the design idea of "old house and new space" and full of modern flavor of the 21st century. Hometown of Lu Xun has become a historic street marked by the customs south of the Yangtze River and a true place to originally understand the works of Lu Xun, taste the characters and scenes composed by him and feel his living situation in those days. Along a narrow street paved by bluestone, stands white wall with green tile and bamboo Tai gates, interspersed with Ancestral Residence of Lu Xun, Residence of Lu Xun, Baicao Garden, Sanwei Study and Xianheng Drinkery. A river passes Residence of Lu Xun with Wupeng boats jiggling in it, which cannot prevent people from remembering some scenes of the works of Lu Xun.
