Upper Tianzhusi Temple, located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, south to the Middle Tianzhusi Temple, was built in 939 AD. It is one of the three portions of Tianzhusi Temple (Lower Tianzhisi Temple, the Middle Tianzhusi Temple and the Upper Tianzhusi Temple); further more, the most prosperous one among the three. It was given another name Faxisi Temple during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty. Housing the status of Avalokiteśvara, it is one of the two most famous worshipping venues of Avalokiteśvara and the birth place of white-robed Avalokiteśvara.
