The Song Zanling Monastery is a culture relic under provincial protection. The monastery, one of the 13 famous temples in Yunnan Province was founded in 1696AD during the region of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama and the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Praised as the Small Potala Place, it is not only the most biggest temple construction complex of Tibetan Buddhism in Yunnan Province, but also the center of the Yellow Pa of the Tibetan Buddhism in Sichuan and Yunnan.

The monastery was constructed along the mountain whose shape was the same as a castle, synthesizing the best of all cultures and arts of Tibetan, hence the name of The Museum of Tibetan Arts. Every year on the 29 th of the 11 th month of Lunar Calendar, the Tibetans hold Gedong Festival, whose major activity is a dance to worship deity (mask dance). It is permeated by an atmosphere of cheerfulness and mysteriousness.
