Shigu Ferry, also named the Red Ferry, was listed as "one of national 100 classic Red scenic spots" in 2005. Shigu is inhabited mainly by Naxi, Han, Miao, Lisu, Bai ethnic groups, lying in "the first bay of Yangtze River", and acted as an integrated transportation hub between the south and north.
In 1936, the second and the sixth corps of the Red Army stayed in Shigu for three days, leaving out abundant historic sites and historical relics. Historically, Shigu (Ferry) was a renowned ferry as many historical celebrities like Zhu Geliang and Kubilai khan once crossed the river from the ferry.
However, there are still more to be found about the ferry. The town was already a busy trading centre since the Qing dynasty. It is famous for its peculiar marbles as well as the orchids. So you will surely have fun while you are in Shigu Ferry.
