Located 72 km from Ninglang Town, Lugu Lake is just like a sparkling gem inlaid among the mountains in the northeast plateau of Yunnan Province. In the picturesque landscape of lakes and hills live Mosuo people with the unusual feature of matriarchal clan. The original folk customs and their special chapter of marriage make this ancient land even more mysterious and attractive. And it is named “Eastern Women Country”. The land by the Lugu Lake is the last relic of matriarchal clan.
Lugu Lake covers an area of about 50 square kilometers, and the mean depth of the water is 45 meters. It is surrounded by thick forests, which make the air clean and fresh. Since it is sparsely peopled, it becomes a place with the best ecosystem protection in China. In the crystal water, many kinds of fishes are swimming freely. There are 9 islands, 17 beaches and 14 bays. Tourists can get to the islands by canoe rowed by Mosuo girls. The charm of Mosuo girls, the elegance of canoe, and melody of fish songs all compel the admiration of tourists both from China and abroad and therefore are regarded as the three treasures of Lugu Lake.
With its unique cultural and natural feature, Lugu Lake is known far and near.
