Ethic groups in Sinkiang such as Hazakstan, Mongolia, Kirkiz, Tajik and Uygur like horse racing very much. Especially the Hazakstan people living in the grassland of Mount Tian and Mount Aertai love horse racing and have very good skills. According to historical records of Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, horse racing combined with that military service became a national system. Horse racing is also a kind of important entertainment for nobles. It is often held at festivals. After China’s liberation, this traditional sport has developed a lot. There are often horse racing meeting for the massive people. The champion horse would be called “Abaiate”, which means the best horse. The champion rider would be rewarded. In recent years, some Sinkiang activities have been add to horse racing: steeplechase, point-to-point, polo, shooting, bayonet fighting, dancing match, carriage race, etc.
