In the entire Hetian Prefecture, 96 percent of the population is Uyghur. So all typical cuisines of Xinjiang can be eaten in Hetian, such as Xinjiang Rice (a kind of food popular among believers in Islam), Hominysamp, Roasted Whole Lamb, Shish kebab, Toasted Baozi, Sanzi(a traditional festival food for guests among the Uyghurs and other nationalities ), Lagman (a kind of handmade noodles toped with stir-fried lamb and vegetables), yoghourt and Nang. Everybody likes the taste of the tender lamb with cumin seeds, red pepper flakes, and salt. Nang is very crispy and tasty. Breads there are baked with seasame seeds, butter, milk, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar to add its favor. Youtazi (steamed multilayer bread) are well-known in Hetian. Roasted eggs are a kind of Uyghur snack with unique flavor in Hetian, you can't miss it and you can't find it in other places any more.

If you travel to Hetian, there are two restaurants you shouldn't miss. They are the centrally-located Lokman Restaurant and Hetian Technical Cooking School Restaurant. Eating in these two restaurants, you can not only enjoy the delicious foods but also the comfortable environment with authentic Uyghur music and Hetian traditional entertainments. Weilimei Fast Food Restaurant is right on the eastern side of Unity Square. It mainly provides some fast foods like burgers, fried chicken, fries, and sundaes. You can order what you want on a photo menu easily. Just in the south of Hetian Yinbinguan Hotel, a clean Rock Fast Food Restaurant serves tasty Uyghur foods at very reasonable prices. If you want to try some fish or some sea foods, the Iiqi Hotel Restaurant will be your best choice. And, if you want to experience the real daily life of Hetian people, you could choose any common restaurants in the streets. They will provide you the home-cooked foods of Hetian.
