In Tang Dynasty, Beiting Supervision Prefecture was established as a political and economic centre of northern Xinjiang in today’s Jimsar County. Beiting Supervision Prefecture neighbors Tianshan southwards and was in the key way of east to west. Beiting Supervision Prefecture once governed areas north of Tianshan, south of Bajkal Lake, east of Balkhsh Lake and even the areas around Aral Sea. Beiting Supervision Prefecture was historic for its functions to maintain national unity and stability of border area and to safeguard security of “New North Road” of “Silk Road”.  One aspect, Beiting Supervision Prefecture was a military and political establishment set up in Western Regions by the central government of Tang Dynasty. Besides, it was also an economic establishment because of the traditions of farming in border areas in China history in Western Regions. At that time, Beiting Supervision Prefecture played very important roles in maintaining stability of Western Regions, local economic development, unity of nationalities and preventing foreign invaders. The construction style of Beiting Supervision Prefecture is very similar to the one of heartland China at that time. From the unearthed cultural artifacts it could be imagined the grand construction of its original building. However, the grand construction of Beiting Supervision Prefecture was destroyed by war during the transition time between Yuan Dynasty (AD1206-AD1368) and Ming Dynasty (AD 1368-AD 1644). Its relic was preserved to today. Local people nickname it as a “destroyed city”. Today if you visit the relic, there will be a grand picture of Beiting Supervision Prefecture appearing in your imagination although it has passed over one thousand years and so many war destructions.
