Loulan Ancient City lies in the north-east part of Qiangruo County, 300 kilometers far from the city proper; it is located in the west of Luobu’er by north bank, 7 kilometers to the southern bank of Peacock River.
It had been a place with plenty of water and lush grass, as well as flat topography, where agriculture, stockbreeding and fishing were all very developed in ancient times. Around A.D., there had been a prosperous Loulan country, which was the well-known strategic place of Silk Road at that time, but around 4 century, this country which was once renowned suddenly disappeared, only leaving some ruins in the desert.
The extant ruins of Loulan city approximately present the square shape, with around 330 meters of every city wall and an area of about 1.1 square kilometers. There are also some broken courtyard and towering pagodas left in the city. Quite a few ancient cultural relics have been found in the Loulan Ancient City, including all kinds of utensils and corns, among which the most precious one is the transcript “Strategies of the Warring States” in Jing Dynastry (265-420).
