The largest museum is the forbidden City, which occupys over 720,000 square meters, containing 800 buildings and over 9000 chambers. China has numerous museums with themed collections. The Beijing Captial Museum and Shaanxi Provincial museum are perhaps the most famous two in terms of their collections and historical importance. Beijing nature musuem is located at the Tianqiao area, backing on the Temple of Heaven. The museum hold large arrays of paleospecies, fauna and flora. The ancient animal museum in Beijing has been claimed as the largest of its kind in ancient. Displayed at the museum is some extinguished speices.
