Vacation In Beijing In September 2008

We plan to visit Beijing, after the Olympic Games, in September 2008. Need advice as we've not been to this beautiful city. Where to stay, eat and see when in Beijing. Do we need to join a local tour agency or can we manage on our own? If a local tour agency is necessary, your recommendation pls. Tips on security and safety will also be helpful. The Chinese language is okay with us. Thank you Tien from Singapore.

Hi Tien, Beijing is a wonderful city and also September is a good season to visit Beijing. There are many hotels and hostels in Beijing, you can easily find one. But I would like to reconmmend you The Red Wall Hotel which is near the Tian'an Men Square. It's a 3 star hotel and has very good service with a resonable price.
For backpackers I think the local international youth hotel would be a good choice.
For travel angecy, it depends on how you want your trip will be.
It would be much cheaper and easier if you use a local travel angecy. Otherwise, you can do it by yourself with a local travel gouide book which will allow you to approach this city more freely.
What's more, be aware of the pickpockets when you are in the crowds even if Beijing is a safe and nice city.
