Xuebaoding Scenic Area has splendid modern glaciers and lakes, which are well developed. It Is not only the watershed of Minjiang River and Peijiang River, but also the original place of the two rivers. Near Xuebaoding Peak, there are 3 mountains, whose altitudes are all about 5000 meters. It, together with the three mountains, Huanglong Mountain and Xueshanliang Mountain becomes the southeast screen of Songpan county. The total area is 160 square kilometers. Xuebaoding Peak looks like a grand pyramid. It is the pilgrimage mountain for Tibetan Minority. At this resort, visitors can not only see sights of glaciers, but also feel the region devotion of Tibetan people. Besides, visitors can also feel the pleasure of mountaineering and adventure on the snow peak.
Xuebaoding Peak
Xuebaoding in Tibetan language means the sun of summer and winter. It is the major peak of Minshan Mountain, and has an altitude of 5588 meters. There is snow on the top of the peak throughout the whole year. Unique rocks are among the highway up the peak. Numerous ravines and ponds scatter all over the mountain. There are 108 bigger ponds at Xuebaoding Peak. The foot of the peak is lined with lush flowers, grasses, bushes, pine trees, etc. Besides, some treasured Chinese medicines grow here, too. And it is also a good place for blue sheep, deer, forest musk deer, etc, to live and breed. The south, west and north cliffs of Xuebaoding Peak are so high that as if they topped to the sky. In 1986, with the hardworking of Sino-Japanese mountaineers, they finally succeeded in reaching the top of Xuebaoding Peak.
Xueshanliang Mountain
Xueshanliang Mountain is situated at the center of Xuebaoding Scenic Area. It is the fountainhead of Peijiang River. It has the altitude of 4000 meters or so, is the thoroughfare to Huanglong Valley. There are five-color prayer flags on the ridge. The color of blue stands for the sky, yellow for the earth, green for the river, red for the fire, and white for the cloud. The prayer flags are used as tools to send the devotions and pray of the Tibetan people to the nature. The good preservation of Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area has great relationship with the devotion of Bon-po among the Tibetan people. Bon-po regards nature as their god. They believe that wind, rain, thunder, light, mountains, rivers, trees, animals, etc, are all produced by nature. Among the legends of Huanglong, it is said that every mountain has its own god and those mountain gods have their own name, as well. Xueshanliang Mountain is formed by Karst landform and glaciers. The main spots are Taojin Valley, Zhangjia Valley, Guandao Stone, etc. There are cliffs and caves all over Taojin Valley. In Zhangjia Valley, the glacier lakes are as blue as jewels. It is mysterious at Guandao Stone. Xueshanliang Moutain is not only a tourist interest area, but also a good place on studying Karst landform and modern glaciers.
Huanglong Valley
Huanglong Valley is regarded as the Saint Paradise. It was found by Tibetan people at early time. All Tibetan are devout Buddhists. Pilgrimage is an important affair for them in their life. They always go further in order to find a good place for pilgrimage. And finally, they chose Xuebaoding Peak as their Pilgrimage Mountain, and Huanglong Valley as their Saint Paradise.
The Sprinkling Waterfall
The Sprinkling Waterfall also calls “Shouting Spring”. It lies at the top of Yucui Peak. The waterfall seldom flows. But if visitors want to see the waterfall, they should shout loudly under the cliff. Amazingly, the water flows out when people shout. Louder shout more water. The water stops flowing at the same time when the shout stops. It is said that pilgrims moved Buddha when they recited scriptures here. Therefore, the Buddha sprinkled saint water to them. That is the reason why the waterfall calls the Buddha Sprinkling Waterfall. It was researched by experts that this phenomenon happens because of the change of the air pressure.
Many glaciers
Many glaciers flow straightly from the major peak. It looks like a splendid picture with glaciers, dense primitive forest, flowers, grasses, etc. Huanglong Glaciers have the features of danger, precipice, grandness, uniqueness, silence, etc. Those glaciers also show the complete process for forming a glacier.
Snow Crash
When spring comes, snow begins to melt. At that time, thousands of tons of snow crash down to the deep valley. The snow crash flows in a very rapid speed and loud sound. When it happens, the whole mountains will be shaken by the snow crash. And people can hear the huge sound within several kilometers.
Ice Waterfalls
In winter, the huge waterfalls will be frozen in one day. They have different kinds of shapes when frozen. It is very splendid to see that the ice waterfalls shine blue lights in the sunshine.
