Danyun Valley

Danyun Valley Scenic Resort is 18 kilometers far away from the east of Huanglong Valley. It is famous for the elegant valley scenery. Danyun Valley is one of the five most famous scenic spots at Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area. It is rich in tree species, bushes, flowers and trees. It is the paradise for plants amateurs.

Danyun Valley Scenic Resort starts at Yusun Peaks, and extends till to the Fan Cave. It is 18.5 kilometers in length and the average height difference is 1300 meters. The height difference between two peaks is 1000 to 2000 meters in general. In winter, the resort is covered with white snow. In summer, it is filled with green trees. In spring, red azaleas blossom all over the valley. In fall time, the red maple leaves cover the whole valley. It looks as if the valley were covered with the red fire cloud from the sky. That is the reason why the valley calls Danyun Valley, which means the valley of the red fire cloud in Chinese. There are fogs rising at the forest almost every day at Danyun Valley. When entering it, people will feel as if they entered a fairyland.

It has dense forest in the valley. Peijiang River, whose fountainhead is from the Xuebaoding Peak, traverses among the unique stones and rocks, as if it were a huge white dragon. If Huanglong Valley is a grand movement of symphony music, Danyun Valley will be a colorful art-gallery.

Prickly Ash Valley

Prickly Ash Valley is the first scenery at Danyun Valley Resort. The reason why it calls Prickly Ash is because prickly ashes grow all over the valley. When entering the area, dense trees stand straightly on the two sides of the road. The flowers blossom in the bushes. Caves and trees are twined with villous wisterias. The scenery looks like a picture of a group of plants stereoscopic sculpture. It becomes more charming when fall comes.

Yusun Cave

Yusun Cave is at the entrance of Danyun Valley, and is 17 kilometers far from Peiyuan Bridge. Looking up at the peaks, they seem as if they were sharpened by swords. Some pine trees and spruces stand on the black cliffs. Lots of peaks stand over the dense forest. The most unique one is Yusun Cave, which looks like a bamboo shoot. 

Stone Horse Pass

Stone Horse Pass is 20 kilometers far from Peiyuan Bridge. The name of Stone Horse Pass came from a stone horse on the cliff wall at the button of the valley. The height difference of the two sides of the valley is 4800 meters. Thus there forms a narrow pass between the two sides of the valley. The best position to watch Stone Horse Pass is at Guanjing Pavilion, which lies at the halfway up the hill. At this pavilion, visitors can watch the horse more vividly. The horse stretches its head over the river, as if it were dinking the water from Peijiang River. Its horsehairs look as if they were blown by the wind. The natural image of the stone horse really looks like a relief sculpture.

Squatting-Cat Cave

The cave of squatting cat faces Yusun Cave oppositely. It is very precipitous. There stands a unique stone, and it looks like a squatting cat. Visitors always stop and take a picture with the cat when arriving here.

Brush Pot Hill

There appears a hill of brush pot on the eyes of visitors when entering further into the valley. It is made of countless small peaks. Therefore, it looks like a huge brush pot from a far distance, while like many small brush pots from a close distance. Those big and straight pine trees are like brushes in the pot. There is a natural stone bridge over the cliff. It is twined with ancient villous wisterias and green mosses. It is said that the stone bridge is formed by rain and wind's eroding. It is a miracle as it still can be used as a bridge after billions of years.

The Moon Cliff

On the left of Brush Pot Hill, there is the Moon Cliff. The cliff is covered with villous wisterias and mosses. Waterfalls flow down along the cliff. It is said that there are many mysterious caves on the cliff.

Lingbin Cave

Because of the large drop of the landform, Peijiang River flows slantingly and has huge sound at Lingbin Cave. It listens as if it was playing a grand movement of symphony music. More amazingly, at the depth of the valley, there is a total different phenomenon. Several small springs flow along the cliff lightly. They gently fall into the button of the valley at last and have tuneful sounds, as if they were played by the traditional Chinese instrument.
In summer, there are dense trees and many springs. In winter, the spot shows an ice world.

Long'an Ancient Path

Danyun Valley was an official path in ancient time. It is the thoroughfare from Pingwu to Songpan. Pingwu produces tea. And tea was sent to Songpan, Ma'erkang and Hongyuan Grassland through this path. Some horses were sent to the inner land through this path, too. Long'an Path was very busy at that time. The merchants felt terrible when passed this path, because of the unique stone and the loud sound of the waterfalls. Now people can still recognize some traces of the ancient path.

White Dragon Valley

Peijiang River traverses the dense forest and drops to the cliff suddenly, because there is a huge pit at the White Dragon Valley. The water falls suddenly from the cliff over a height of10 meters. It therefore becomes the grandest waterfall in Danyun Valley. Walking along the path, visitors can arrive at Guanjing Pavilion. It is very close to watch the waterfall at Guanjing Pavilion. People can't help being shocked by the loud waterfall sound as they are so close to it. However, it is amazing to see that there is an elegant spring drops down to the cliff near the huge waterfall. It looks like a white ribbon. Huge waterfall and the elegant spring look like a couple staying together day after day.

Zanzibei Waterfall

Peijiang River is stopped by a huge cave here. A branch of Peijiang River turns to southwest when stopped by the cliff at east. Therefore, it makes some river channels and some waterfalls on the huge river bed. There is a stone stele standing on the cliff which was left from ancient time till now.
The stone stele is consisted of the main stele and the assistant stele. It was proved that the stele was carved 1500 years ago.
It was said that in Wanli's reign in the Ming Dynasty, Wan Bie, the governor of Songpan, was very jealous of the nobles from Songpan. So he swore that he would chop the Dragon Mountains at Songpan. And then people from Songpan would become stupid generation after generation. When he saw the Stele place, he cursed all Songpan people to be stupid and silly from then on. Therefore, after that, there was no Zhuang Yuan (the champions in the civil service examination) any more.

Buddha Cave

Buddha Cave is about 25 kilometers far away from Peiyuan Bridge. Unique peaks stand at both sides of the river. Buddha Cave is the narrowest cave at Danyun Valley Scenic Resort. It has gained a name of "Yi Xian Tian", which means the cave is as narrow as a thread. The landform here is very precipitous. Ancient people built a Buddha Temple near the cave, in order to been blessed by the Buddha. Therefore, the cave is called Buddha Cave.

Drop Valley

Drop Valley is a branch of Danyun Valley. It has cliffy landform, too. The landform looks like a lying dragon. On the cliff, there are lots of springs, which are like water curtains when flowing together. It is said that the water here can cure any kinds of diseases. Caves in the cliff are mysterious with hundreds of stalactites. It was said that some people saw shining lights at the button of the valley. Mysterious as it is, it is called "Bermuda" in Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area.

Xiaohe Ancient Town

Xiaohe Ancient Town is located at the Xiaohe town, Songpan County. It lies at the back of green hills and faces Peijiang River. It occupies an area of 112,200 square meters. The town was built on the eleventh year of Emperor Hongwu' reign in the Ming Dynasty. And now it has a history of over 600 hundred years.

The ancient town is the one with best preservation up till now. The wall is 680 meters in length from east to west, 765 meters from south to north. It has a height of 4.45 meters and a thickness of 4.9 meters. There are four gates in the town, which were made of stone slabs with the arch shapes. The walls were built with the dark blue stones. Those buildings make the whole ancient town more serious and simple.

The Fan Cave

The Fan Cave has another name of "Iron Fan Pass". It has the altitude of 1700 meters. The distance between two cliffs at the two sides is less than 20 meters. It is the narrowest rift of Peijiang Geology Fault. It is also the most important pass at Long'an Ancient Path during the periods of the Tang and Song Dynasty. The cliff here looks like an iron fan, which stops the water of Peijiang River. The water in the narrow cave sounds loudly, as if a dragon was trapped here. Once it flushes out of the cave, it flows quickly forward the river.
