Chengdu Shuangliu Airport is the forth-largest airport in China. There are more than 60 scheduled flights to the major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Zhangjiajie (in Hunan Province), Xian, Lanzhou, Urumchi, Lhasa, Chamdo, Xiamen, Guilin, Kunming, Haikou and so forth. The international and interregional flights include those to Hongkong and Bangkok. The flights within Sichuan Province are Chengdu-Dazhou, Chengdu-Xichang flights.

Shuangliu International Airport is 20 km from the city center. Every 15 minutes, a shuttle bus leaves from the front of the Civil Aviation Building( at the Southern Renmin Road) for the airport; ticket: 8-10 yuan, time: 35 minutes. The bus does not stop on the way. Tourists who will go to the Western  bus station or railway station may ask to get off Tiaoshanta and then take No, 34 bus to get to the Western Bus Statiion or to the Northern Railway Station. Those who will go to the Xinnanmen Bus Station can get off at Minshan Hotel and  walk along the Minjiang Road to the bus station.

Chengdu is the most important transport hub in southwestern China. There are trains running between Chengdu and  major cities of China, such as Beijing, Xian, Kunming, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Urumchi, Shanghai, Lanzhou, and so forth. Trains running within the province are the express tourist trains of Chengdu-Guangyuan Train (connecting Chengu with ancient Shu Path Scenic Spot), Chengdu-Yibin Train (Connecting Chengdu with the southern Sichuan Scenic Spots), and Chengdu-Panzhihua Train (connecting Chengdu with the western Panzhihhua Scenic Spots).

Tips:

1. Tourists can also book train tickets at the air ticket offices scattering around the city or through a travel agency.  A service fee of 5-50 Yuan will be charged.

2. Sichuan is the largest migrant workers export province in China. Everything year after the Chinese New Year, huge numbers of peasants will board trains to go to the east coastal areas to work so it usually impossible to obtain a train ticket from Chengdu to the eastern areas during this time of the year.

Chengdu is also the largest hub of highway transport in southwestern China. Six national highways join in Chengdu: national highway 108 (Sichaun-Shanxi highway, Sichuan-Yunnan highway), national highway 213 (Sichuan-Gansu, Chengdu-Kunming Highway), 317 (the northern Sichuan-Tibet Highway), 318 (Sichuan-Wuhan, Hubei Province, Sichuan-Tibet highway), 319 (Chengdu-Chongqing), and 321 (Sichuan-Guizhou).

There are long distance buses from Chengdu to the various tourist areas around such as Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong National Parks, Emei Mountain, Leshan Giant Buddha (in Leshan City), Kangding , Dujiangyan Irrigation Project .

Regular buses leave for Bifeng Gorge (in Ya'an City), Siguniang Mountain (in Xiaojin County, Aba Prefecture), Xiling Snowy Mountain (in Dayi County, 95 km west of Chengdu), Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Daocheng, Caoyutan (in Hongya County, located in western Sichuan), Giant Leshan Buddha, Sansu Temple (in Meishan County), Fairy Mountain (in Pengshan County), Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain (20 km southwest of Dujiangyan City), and the forth.

1. There are departures every 10 minutes between 6:30 and 20:00 to  Fule Mountain, the Science Town, Xishuziyun Pavilion in Mianyang City. Ticket  price is 29 Yuan per person. The trip takes 1.5 hours.

2.  Bus to Taibai Memorial and Doutuan Mountain in Jiangyou County (Taibai is another name for Liba, the Chinese poet who lived in Tang Dynasty). depart here from 8:00 and 19:00  every 15 minutes. Ticket  price is 34 Yuan per person. The trip takes 2 and half hours.

3.  Buses to Qiqu Damiao (meaning sacred temple) Mountain, Zhangfei Cypress in Zhitong (in north of Mianyang City) County (Zhangfei was an important officer in Shu Kingdom) run between 8:30 and 16:00 with departure every hour. Ticket price is 30 Yuan per person. 

4.  Buses to Jianmen Pass (in Jiange County, which is in northern part of Sichuan Basin), the ancient Shu Plank Road (built along cliffs) run between 7:30 and 16:00 with departure every hour. Ticket price is 36 Yuan per person and the trip takes 4 and half hours.

5.  Every day one bus runs from Chengdu to Ancient Zhaohua Town (a place in the Three Kingdoms Ruins), Huangze Temple, Qingfeng Mingyue Gorge in Guanyuan County (in northern Sichuan). The price is 62 Yuan.

Wuguiqiao Bus Station (near Wuguiqiao, telephone: 028-84711692)

1.  Buses for Chongqing Wild Animals' Paradise (in Yongchuan County) depart every 30 minutes between 8:00 and 10:00 and they depart every hour between 11:30 and 15:30. Ticket price is 57 Yuan per person, and the journey  takes 3 hours.

2. Shuttle buses for sights of  Vast Shu'nan Bamboos and the Stone Forest (both in Yibin County) depart at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:30, 13:40, 14:50 and 16:00. Ticket price: 86 Yuan for a  3.5 hour journey.

3. Regular shuttle buses for the Dinosaur Museum and the Dinosaur Shoal National Park (both in Zigong County) depart at 10:30, 11:30, 14:00, 15:30, and 19:00. The price is 47 Yuan and it takes 2 hours to reach the destiny.

Regular buses mainly run west to Leshan, Ya'an, Wutongqiao (in Leshan City), and so forth.

Tips:

Tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery of grassland and other natural charm when they travel west from Chengdu. There are sceneries of Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain, Longchi National Forest Park (in Dujiangyan City), Xiling Snowy Mountain, Siguliang (Four Ladies) Mountain, Songping Gou (in Mao County, Aba Prefecture, Northwestern Sichuan), Ruo’er Gai Grassland (in Aba Prefecture) Huanglong, Jiuzhaigou, and so on. 

Ximen Bus Station

Regular buses leave for Miyaluo (in Aba Prefecture), Huanglong, Chuanzhu Temple (a sight in Jiuzhaigou, Xiaojin (Siguniang Mountain), and so forth.

Regular buses leave for Jiulonggou, Huashuiwan (hotspring, near Xiling Snowy Mountain), Xiling Snowy Mountain, Meihua stockaded Village (in Chongzhou City, which is in western Sichuan Plain), Jiguan Mountain (natural park, in Chongzhou City), Emei, Leshan, Tiantai Mountain (in Qionglai County), Fairy Mountain (in Pengshan County), and so forth.

Tips:

Tourists can go north to Xindu County from Chengdu for short trips to Baoguang Temple, Gui Lake, Baihe Island, Nibatuo, and visit Sanxingdui Ruins (in Guanghan County), Jinyan Lake (in Deyang City). It is also convenient for them to long journeys for Lhasa or Xinjian from Chengdu.

Luxurious sleeping buses run between Chengdu and Lhasa and Xinjiang.

Tips for long-distance travelers:

1. Tourists had better call the bus Station to inquire if there are any change in the arrangement of buses in advance. Try to buy tickets ahead of time in busy season.

2. All the bus stations are hooked up to the same transport network when they sell tickets.

Public Buses

It costs 1 Yuan for common buses and 2 Yuan for air-conditioned buses in Chengdu. Tourists can get to most of the attractions within the city through public bus.

Taxes

The starting price is 5 Yuan (for the first 1 km), and it cost 1.4 Yuan for a every additional km. A 50% of return charge is required when the distance exceeds 7 km.

Pedicabs

The price is similar to that for taxes, sometimes even more expensive. Negotiation on price is usually expected. Generally the starting price is 5 Yuan.

Tips:

1. Tourists should prepare some loose changes since most of the buses run without conductors.

2. One pedicab seats at most 2 adults and one child who is no higher than 1.2 meter. Generally no luggage is allowed in the pedicab.

Car rentals:

☆Buick/Nissan Cedric: 650 Yuan per day (the distance limit is 150 km). It costs 2.5 Yuan for every extra km.

☆Nissan/Crown (Toyota)/Accord (Honda): 450 Yuan per day (the distance limit is 100 km). It costs 2.5 Yuan for every extra km.

Tips:

1. Tourists should produce their ID cards and foreign tourists should produce their international driving license (universally accepted in the world) and pay a certain sum of caution money when they rent the cars.

2. Rent the cars beforehand in busy tourist seasons.
