I am traveling from Beijing to Shenyang, I would like to catch the train however have been told that it is very difficult as there is no english signage. Has anyone done this trip before or traveled much on the trains in China?

English is rare available on a chinese train. Staff on train can neither speak or understand any english. Train tickets are onliy in Chinese. However, limited english is available on large train stations. arrivals and departures of trains are broadcasted in both Chinese and english. So, there is no big problem for boarding. Using of gestures may help you a lot in case you have to communicate with staff on train or have somebody who know Chinese written your destination and other useful words and expression on a note so that you can show them to somebody who you will ask for help.
comparing with air, train travel is cheaper. but it is important for you to know what to expect if you decide to travel by train in China.
