The Oriental Pearl Tower is one of the first buildings in the newly developed Pudong district (be sure to have a look at the photographic time line over the entrance) and it offers the best panoramic view over Shanghai. Even though the tickets are quite expensive, it is still worth it. Be sure to go there on a clear day though, in fog it is only a waste of money. You can also combine it with the Shanghai Historical Museum in the basement of the tower.
