Located in the south of the Yellow River, Jinan got its name "Spring City" for there are 72 springs in the city. With a history of over 4000 years, there are plenty of cultural relics such as Shungengshan Mountain (the relic of Shun culture), Four Gates Pagoda (the oldest stone tower in China), painted sculptures of arhats in the Lingyan Temple which are regarded as the best sculptures in China, and so on and so forth. Besides, it is a place where the talented people are produced by each generation. Many famous people including Bian Que (the founder of the traditional Chinese medical science), Pang Xuanling (an important official of Tang Dynasty), and Li Bai (a well-known poet of Tang Dynasty) have once been or lived there.
