The Ankang City covers a total area of about 23,529 square kilometres, and accounts for 11.4% of that of the Shanxi Province. There are 9 counties such as Hanyin and Shiquan, and one district, the Hanbin District, under the jurisdiction of the Ankang City. The Ankang Municipal Government is located in the Hanbin District. In the year 2003, the city had a population of 2.93 million, among which the agricultural population was 2.51 million, and the urban population, 260 thousand.
