1). Air plane
Hainan is a sea island lying off the mainland of China, so planes and ships are the major forms of transportation for people to get in and out of Hainan. However, for now, direct flights are only available in some neighboring mainland cities like Guangzhou.

Haikou international airport is only 18 km to the downtown of Haikou City, besides the 30 odd direct flights to mainland cities, international air lines to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are also available.

2). Shipping
There are passenger liners from the ports of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang and Beihai.

3). Railway
There is no train on Hainan island, yet you can buy train tickets to different mainland cities in Haikou. But you have to take the train in Guangzhou, Nanning or Zhanjiang. So Haikou is called "No-railway train station".

4). Road transportation
There are buses, which go to different parts of Hainan Province. You can take a minibus that will directly take you to all the scenic spots of Haikou. There are not so much buses in Haikou City, and the most vehicles are minibuses or pedicabs.
