Zhongwei Overview

Zhongwei is situated in the Midwest of Ningxia. It is bound on the west by Gansu Province, on the north by Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on the east by Wuzhong City, and on the south by Gansu Province and Guyuan City. The crisscrossed highway and crosswisely interweaved railway in Zhongwei City link the communications in the Northwest and the East areas, and keep the communication between eastern and western China run smoothly. Zhongwei is one of the major transportation hubs in the Northwest. Besides, the Yellow River runs through the frontier area of Zhongwei. Zhongwei is also adjacent to Tengger Desert. It has not only created the wonder of Zhongwei rice and Zhongwei sand-control, but also formed a peculiar view.
Because of the running through of the Yellow River, Zhongwei becomes a beautiful oasis in the West.The running through of the Yellow River not only creates favorable conditions for Zhongwei to make the wonder of producing delicious Zhongwei Rice, but also makes the tourism in Zhongwei well-known. Some special local products add gratifying harvest to Zhongwei tour, such as the nourishing Chinese wolfberry, the sour-sweet “sand-control hero”: seabuckthorn, the scented pear appealing to the appetite and relieving a cough, the sweet and exquisite Jinsi date, and so on.

Not only three Zhongwei uniques, “scholars, beauties, and sour-hot soup, are wonderful; but also the numerous scenes of Zhongwei are well applauded. The peculiar and beautiful sand-control zone and the breathtaking and stimulating sand-slipping in the sand sea let you experience a different delight in surf riding. The roundabout and compact High Temple is the representative works of the merging of three religions. The gloomy and ghastly hell in the underground makes your flesh creep.In the water of the surging Yellow River, sitting on the raft, rising and falling with the tide, listening to the roar of the billows, looking at the surging waves, experiencing the ancient means of transportation—sheepskin raft, and pondering over the wonder of a thousand-year civilization may be called a personal experience combining thrill and novelty in one. The Dragon King Palace Lake is acclaimed as the bright pearl of the sea of sand. All the landscapes of it are named after the word “Dragon”. They are telling a moving story of a Taoism priest removing danger by killing a dragon for the villagers. Sikou scenic spot is well known for the danger of Yellow Dragon Bridge, the serenity of Sikouzi Ditch, the peculiarity of Shixiazi, the unusual beauty of Sikou Grand Canyon and Lingxian Canyon, and the breathtaking beauty of the red clouds and precipices. Besides, there are beautiful legends of Suwu taking care of sheep and warriors of the Yang Family protecting our homes and defending our country. The natural landscapes and the atmosphere of humanity combine together. There are an ingenious matching and a unique style.

Zhongwei is not only well known for its magnificent and pretty scenes, but also for its snacks. These dishes are very popular among the local people, vegetable tofu, Xuanfen cold dish, and Mihuangzi. They are also snacks in summer. Steamed Dovefish and stewed camel’s paw are rare excellent dishes. You may try them according to individual taste while you are on your trip.
