Transportation

Dandong is located at the Coast of Huanghai River and the bank of Yalu River, facing DPRK with a river in between. It is the largest city on the border of China, and reputed as the “the Window of the Oriental World”. With developed transportation and communication facilities, the whole city has developed a cubic transportation network featuring the connection of water, land, and air.

Airline

Dandong Langtou Airport is one of the five airports in Northeast China. It is located in Langtou County 14 kilometers away from South Dandong. Tourists can take Bus No.5, No. 8 or No. 10 in front of the railway station to Langtou Airport, or spend 15 Yuan on taxi. The Civil Aviation Booking Office lies in Jinjiang Street, and it has regular buses to and from the airport. By now, there are airlines directly to Dandong from cities like Beijing, Chengdu, Pudong in Shanghai, Sanya, Weihai, Jinan and Shenzhen, etc.

Railway

It is a distance of 277 kilometers from Dandong to Shenzhen, and takes four hours on an air-conditioning express train. The air-conditioning express train from Dandong to Beijing starts at late afternoon and arrives at the destination next morning. It costs only 14 hours and the ticket price for a hard seat is 263 Yuan. Dandong Railway connects with Pingyi Railway Line of Korea through Yalu River. The express train No. 27 from Beijing to Pyongyang starts at 9: 35 on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, and arrives at the destination at 18: 50 of Pyongyang time the same day.

Automobile

Dandong Long-distance Passenger Transport Automobile Terminal lies in No. 98, Shiwei Road of Zhenxing District. It is only a five-minute walk from the railway station to the Automobile Terminal.

There is Huanghai Highway (National Highway No.201) from Dandong to Dalian. It has been extended to Zhuanhe but is still not available for passenger transport. Each day luxury automobiles from Dandong to Dalian will start respectively at 5：30, 6：00, 6：30, 6：40, 6：50, 7：30, 8：20, 8：40, 11：10, 13：30, and 16：00. The ticket price is 55 Yuan for the 5.5 to 6 hours’ trip.

It is suggested to take the National Highway No. 201 from Dandong to Southeast Jilin Province. There are automobiles to Tonghua at 6: 30 and 8: 50, to Ji’an at 8: 30, and to Baishan at 6: 50. The whole trip from Dandong to the final destination in Southeast Jilin costs only seven to eight hours, much faster than by train.

Taxi

The minimum price is five Yuan every three kilometers. Each kilometer will cost 1.8 Yuan when beyond three kilometers. Tourists can either take the odometer or bargain with the driver on price. Most taxies are Santana.
