Dandong, also known as Andong, historically originated from the Andong Regional Command in Tang Dynasty, during which it was an important military stronghold. Dandong was later open as a port for foreign trade by the government. The city has since been industrialized and the economy has been growing in an ever rapid speed. And very soon it became the centre for material exchange and distribution of Liaoning and East Jilin Province. It was hence given the name, window of import and export.
Being the largest coastal city on the northern border of China, Dandong is endowed with unique natural, historical, and cultural resources. It is famous for its tourism sceneries and places of historic interests.
About 50 years ago, a song called Bravely Crossing the Yalu River, for its extraordinarily encouraging and stirring lyrics, inspired tens of thousands Chinese people to be courageous and fearless to protect their beloved motherland and to fight against the ruthless invaders from the west.
