West to the Dayang River, east to the Shuangcha River and south to the Huanhai River, and surrounded by the Zhangdao Island, the Ludao Island and the Little Island, the Dagu Mountain embraces the majesty from the mountains and immensity from the oceans.
The Dagu Mountain Scenic Area is composed of three scenery spots: the Ancient Construction Clusters Scenic Area, the Little Island Scenic Area, and the Dalu Island Scenic Area. Covering an area of more than 5000 square kilometres, the Ancient Construction Clusters resides in the middle of the Dagu Mountain, containing 104 palaces, pavilions, and towers. They were originally built in Tang Dynasty, although most of the remaining buildings were reconstructed during the Qing Dynasty which was famous for brick-carving techniques. Fifteen kilometers away from Gushan City, the Little Island Scenic Area consists of 14 islands and peninsulas, six larger ones among which are connected together by ten separate sea walls and highways. South to the Little Island there situates a natural bathing area, beach and beautiful long coastline. There are abundant seafood in the nearby waters and in particular the breeding prawns are famous countrywide.
4-meter long, 1.5-kilometer wide, of an area of six square kilometres, the Dalu Island is located alongside the Huanghai River 19-kilometers away from Gushan City. The site of 1894 Jiawu War against the Japanese invaders was not far from the island. There are waterways connecting the Dalu Island with the Gushan County and the Little Island. Every 18th of April according to the Chinese lunar calendar, people here will hold a Temple Fair, which is a great occasion for tourists to learn the local traditions and customs.
Taking an afar view of the area, it's hard not to be amazed and impressed by the grandness of the Huanghai River, the broadness of the skyline and the uniqueness of the summits. The eight gorgeous sceneries, namely, Ziye Sacred Spring, Banfu Immortal Palace, Generation Gingko, Non-word Ancient Stele, Liyuan Tower, the No. 1 Immortal Palace, Unique Brick Carvings, and the Co-existence of Three religions, are reputed as the Eight Sacred Sceneries of Dalu Mountain. These are the world famous must-see spots.
