The original name of Benxi Lake was “Beixi Lake”. In the reign of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Benxi Lake, hence the city got its name. Benxi Lake is a lake in a cave and the shape of the lake is like a rhinoceros’ horn, with its external part wide and its internal part narrow. The surface of the lake in the cave is over 20 square meters. The flow capacity is 20,000 tons day and night. Beside the lake, an ancient temple-Chihang Temple was built at the end of the Ming Dynasty, with statues and frescos in the cave. The clean spring in the cave pour in the man-made lake continuously. Weeping willows around the man-made lake laugh in the breeze. There are Mid-Lake Pavilion and arch bridge on the lake and various kinds of yachts shuttle on the surface. Newly-built stone stairs, pavilions and museum of antiquities make Benxi Lake more charming.
There is a karst over the mountainside which is 500 meters south of the park, commonly called Dragon Cave. The cave is over 200 meters long and the stalactites in the cave are omniform, some are like Buddha-to-be sermon and some are like eighteen arhats swarming, so here is also called Buddist arhat Cave.
