The reserve, which is the only provincial marsh natural reserve in Suihua, has an area of 8,292 hectares. It is an “inland marsh and waters ecosystem type” that belongs to “natural ecosystem class”, and is a nature reserve which mainly preserves the waters ecosystem and marshes that are co-formed by aquatic animal, terrestrial animal and habitat. In the reserve, there are totally 412 species of wild vascular plants, belonging to 69 families and 191 genera. Among them, huangqi (root of membranous milk vetch), wild soybeans, Wusuli myriophyllum verticillatum, and northeastern rough gentian are national and provincial preserved plants and have high values in economy and protection. The reserve has 228 species of amniotes, including 39 species of fish, 6 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 145 species of birds. Among them, one is the first-class national protected species, 20 are the second-class national protected. Those are all birds, taking up 11.5% of national preserved birds. There are also many species of economic animals. The nature reserve has a sophisticated ecosystem structure and various types, including shrubberies, meadows, swamps, hydrophytes, altogether 28 types. The ecosystem has many mosaic distributed types and a complicated structure, showing the diversity of the ecosystem in the reserve. The all-round marshes, bulrushes, grassland, and reservoirs offer a good ecological condition for ecological tourism. Developing ecological tourism can gain people knowledge of environment protection and humanities while they are enjoying the nature sights. The main attractions are Bird-watching Station, Water Area Touring, Marsh Sighting, Fishing Center, and Adventure in Marsh etc.
