The railways from Shilu to Basuo, and from Basuo to Sanya inside Hainan province are the southernmost railway in China, and are mainly used for transportation of industrial products. The Guangdong-Hainan railwai, which was open to traffic formally on 1st July 2003, ends the history of Hainan being unconnected with the outside world by trains, thus making it more open to the outside world.
