Brief introduction
Yangming Cave is a famous sacred place for study, where Wang Yangming (1472-1529), a Chinese educator and philosopher in the Ming Dynasty, studied, meditated and gave lectures.
Wang Yangming, a native of Zhejiang Province in the east China, was once a court official. In the reign of Emperor Zhengde (1506), having offended the eunuch in power, he was banished to become a post house official in Longchang (now Xiuwen County), Guizhou. During the three years in Longchang, he understood thoroughly the motto “to investigate things is to attain knowledge”, asserted “the unity of knowledge and practice”, and wrote some related essays later well known to people. Beside the cave, there are also many stone inscriptions by officials and notable persons in the Ming and the Qing Dynasties.
