The Scenic Spot

There are four sects in Getu River Scenic Spots.

Dachuandong Sect

The Swallow Cave: it is the first hall at the entrance of the hall, where a, underground stream flows in. Under the 116 meters high, 25 meters wide natural arch is a 270-meter-long lake. Thousands of swallows inhabit in the cave. They fly at the entrance of the cave in the morning and in the evening, forming a spectacular scene.

Chuanshang Cave: it is the ruins of an ancient underground river. Tourists can enter the cave through a suspended tunnel of the cave. The tunnel is 137 meters long, 70 meters wide and 50 meters high. The tunnel is wide enough for a plane to fly through. Compared with the entrance of the river, the tunnel is 226 meters higher. Numerous precious undershrub and lianas grow on the ground.

The Blind Valley: it is a groove-shape valley, which is 1 km long and 30-150 meters wide. Some 200 to 400-meter-high cliffs surround the valley. Tourists can enter the valley through a 20-meter-high silo hole.

Tongtian Cave: it is a huge silo through the carbonate rock. The cave is 370 meters deep and 200 meters wide. The hole looks like a dormer window. (Tongtian means “up into the sky”)

Dahe Sect

The Facing Peaks: they are located between Dahe Village and Dachuan Cave. Because the two isolated peaks face each other among the green mountains, they are called the facing peaks.

Dahe Village: the village enjoys beautiful natural environment, with green mountains surrounding it and Getu River flowing in front of it. The quiet village looks like the Xanudu away from the common world.

Tianxing Cave: it is located near Guankou Village, where Ziyun County borders Changshun County. The cave is 110 meters high and 40 meters wide. The entrance is square shape. Stone curtains hang along the wall of the cave. Tourists can take boat and go into the cave 200 meters.

Tianxing Burial Cave: it is located in the dry cave left to the entrance of the Tianxing Cave. There are three natural steps, each being 2 meters high in the cave. There are hanging coffins (coffins placed in a cliff cave) placed from top to below. The coffins are made from beech wood. There are altogether 104 coffins in the cave, 40 of which are still well preserved.

Tianci Lake (Tianci means from God): it is a natural lake of karst topography, lying in the green trees like a mirror. The lake is 350 meters long and 100 meters wide, with an altitude of 980 meters. There are three mouths of spring in the lake, and the water quality is very good there.

Xiaochuandong Sect:

Miao Hall: there is an underground stream flowing into the huge limestone hall. With an area of 15 hektares, the hall is the second largest cave hall in the world and the largest one in Asia. Great stalactites in the cave look like all kinds of things.

Zhongdong Cavemen: the cave is located above the exit of Xiaochuandong Cave. There are the upper, middle and the lower limestone caves there. Zhongdong, which is 300 meters right to the upper cave, is 50 meters high, 100 meters wide and 200 meters deep. 18 Miao nationality households live here. The houses are built with wood stakes and bamboo wattle walls. The stone house in the middle is the school, behind which is a playground. Water (for the daily use) drips along a three-meter long frog-shape stalactite. The Zhongdong culture is a typical culture of troglodytes (people living in a cave).

Zhulin Stockaded Village: it is located on a mountain in the middle branch of Getu River. The alpine Miao nationality people live there. The village is known for its Diaojiao houses (the wood houses propped up by wooden supports with ladders leading up). Huge ancient forest and bamboos surround the village, forming a quiet and beautiful picture.

Xiaochuandong Cave: it is also called Maogutian. The cave is 50 meters high, 40 meters wide and has an altitude of 790 meters. Getu River flows out of the cave, forming a beautiful natural scene.

Huangjiawan Sect

Gu’ao Lake: it is a man-made lake formed after the Huangjiawan Reservoir was finished. The lake has an area of 31 sq. km and holds 0.27 billion sq. meters of water. The main water route is 28 km long. There are 23 isolated islands in the lake, which is divided into the northern and the southern part. Green mountain and huge trees surround the lake, and it’s very spectacular scenery here.

Xingxing Gorge: it is located at the lower branch of Zuoma River. It is a long valley between two facing mountains. In the valley are clean streams, green trees, with beautiful hills standing on both sides.

Tashan Stone Tower: it is located on a mountain southeast to the county town of Ziyun. The town was finished in 1784 (in Qing Dynasty), and it has great historic significance.
