The Nanxishan Hill Park, with the Nanxishan Hill standing in and the Nanxi River passing through, is located in south Guilin, one km from the railway station.
The Nanxishan Hill, at an altitude of 291 meters, with its two peaks erecting facing each other, seems like two white screens. The Longji Pavilion between the two peaks is a good place to gain a bird’s eyes view of south Guilin. Nanxishan Hill was first explored by Li Bo, an officer in Tang Dynasty. His existing stone inscription “A Farewell to Nanxi” and “A Poem to Nanxishan Hill” which recorded his experience in exploring the Nanxishan Hill over 1000 years ago is still in the cave of the Nanxishan Hill.
The caves in the Nanxishan Hill Park are renowned for their large quantity and grotesque shape, among which the White Dragon Carve on the northern hillside is the most famous. The entrance of the cave is high and wide opened, like a huge stone house. It is named the White Dragon Cave is because the stones in it is white and the stagmalite hung on the entrance seems like a Dragon’s head. The White Dragon Cave, 499.5 meters long and with a total area of 1828 square meters, is the longest and widest cave in the Nanxishan Hill. Illuminated, the limestone containing minerals appears like lions, jade bamboo shoot, agate and so on. Besides, the Chuanyun Cave, Guanyin Cave, Xuan Cave are also very beautiful.
The bridge spanning the Nanxi River is called White Dragon Bridge, built in 1965. It is a miniature model of the famous Zhaojia Bridge built in Sui Dybasty, 30 meters long and 5.5 meters wide. Made in terrazzo and with five open bridge pavilions on it, the bridge well displays the features of ancient Chinese bridge. The White Dragon Spring by the bridge is very limpid and sweet which is perfect for making Chinese tea.
