Transportation by highway here is very convenient. There is Country Road No. 324, Fuzhou-Xiamen highway, and 7 national second-grade roads, forming a main road framework, three of which are vertical and cross the other three main roads. The total length of the road amounts to 2,841 kilometers.

There are 11 seaports, 3 river ports, more than 20 major wharfs in Putian city. Meizhou Bay is a natural harbor with deep water within Putian city, where the water inside is deep and broad without any time of freezing and filling up with mud. The coastline which can be exploitive amounts to more than 30 kilometers. Ships with a capacity of 50,000 tons can travel freely in and out of the bay, and ships with a capacity of 100,000 tons can travel in and out by taking the tide. One general cargo terminal with capacity of 10,000 tons has been completed, as well as 2 terminals with capacity of 3,000 tons and 1 terminal with capacity of 1,000 tons. 1 terminal with multifunction and a capacity of 35,000 tons has been building now. Xiu Yu Wharf has been set as a national class one wharf and a special place for chaptrel to berth. There have been regular container ships traveling from Xiu Yu Wharf to Hong Kong, making it possible to travel from Putian to all the wharfs in 26 countries and 41 areas by way of Hong Kong.
