Sheng xiao is the name of 12 symbolic animals associated with 12 years cycle, often used to denote the years of a person'birth. The 12 animals are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

The 12 Sheng Xiao is designated by the ancient Chinese people and it is basically a kind of time concept. Because it is associated with the year, the month, the day and the hour, thus people grant it with mystification and in return it affects people'psychology and ideology.
