The number of moderate cities increases relatively fast, and the number of small cities increases the fastest. In eastern coastal areas, municipal groups ( zones ) centering on unusually large cities begin to take shape. The main municipal groups are circling Bohai Sea municipal group, the Yangtze River Delta municipal group, and the Pearl River Delta municipal group.
