Naadam means entertainment in the Mongolian. The Nadam Grassland festival is a magnificent fair featuring traditional Mongolian mass recreational and sports activities. It is held between summer and autumn from July to August when flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and the cattle and sheep are well-fed, the signal of a good harvest comes.
The Naadam Festival is the largest and most representative festival in the region with a long history back to Yuan dynasty.
The activities of the festival included song-dance performances reflecting the folklore of various ethnic groups, ethnic sports competitions, exhibitions and sales of ethnic commodities, trade talks and soliciting investments.
Tourists can participate and watch horseracing, wrestling, archery, and enjoy the singing and dancing performed by Mongolian artists, or try local Mongolian traditional delicacies. Any one who has a special talent in sports can also take part in the wrestling and archery contests.
