By the end of the year 2001, the Zhuang nationality has a total population of 15,601,000, which accounts for 32.79% of that of the whole autonomous region, and more than 90%of that of Zhuang nationality all over the country. It is the only national minority that has a population of more than ten million in our country. People of nationality Zhuang mainly live together in four districts, namely, Nanning, Baise, Hechi and Liuzhou. A proportion of them are scattered in 66 counties of the autonomous region. The distributed area of Zhuang nationality takes up about 60% of the total land of Guangxi. Zhuang ethnic group has its own language characterized by the south and north dialects, which share almost the same grammar structure and glossary. The language Zhuang nationality belongs to the Zhuang-Dong language branch of the Han-Tibetan language family. Through close contact with people from Han ethnic group a long time ago, the Zhuang nationality acquired the use of Han language and its characters. Several hundred years ago, the Zhuang nationality once applied the "tusu character", which has a similar echoism structure as that of Chinese characters. In 1955, a Zhuang nationality language in the form of a Pinyin character was created and a series of books and newspapers issued at the same time in the language of Zhuang nationality.
