The Hui nationality takes an eighth place in terms of population among all nationalities of Guangxi, and is the very ethnic minority with the minimum population. By the end of the year 2001, the Yi nationality in Guangxi has a total population of 30,900, which accounts for 0.07% of the total population in this autonomous region. Of them the Guilin City and Lingui and Yangshuo counties under the jurisdiction of the Guilin City are most densely populated areas, with Liuzhou City and Nanning City second to them. The population of Hui nationality in the three cities takes up about 70% of that in whole Guangxi. Where there are more people of Hui nationality live together, there will be concentrated communities. In a word, the Hui nationality in Guangxi likes to live in cities and towns, scattering in wide area but in the form of concentrated communities. In rural areas, the Hui nationality mostly develops into villages. Owing to the long-term intercourse with the Han ethnic group, the Hui people have acquired the spoken Han language, and the usage of Han characters. There are still some words of Persian language and Arabic language retained in their religious life.
