An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit China’s Sichuan province at 2:28 p.m. Monday, local time. Wenchuan, the epicenter of the quake was located 31.0 degrees north latitude and 103.4 degrees east longitude, the The Chinese State Seismological Bureau said. There are 111,800 population lives in Wenchuan, 146km away of it, lies the most populated city, Chengdu, with the population of 10 million.
Wenchuan was next to Tibetan plateau, where mountains rise sharply and the population density is generally thin.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage yet.
The tremor was felt across the entire region, such as Chengdu, Xian, Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, Hainan and much more places including Bangkok, the capital of Thai, Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
Many people were evacuated from office buildings in most of cities in China. Mobile phones in Chengdu and Chongqing, Xian could not be reached for a while. I, (who is reporting this now) felt my seat was shaked by someone and felt dizzy, start looking at my glasses and found the water in the glass was moving, decided to walk out of the office, and found that everyone were on the way out of the office.
