CHina train travel

Yelee asked 9 months ago. Tags: China train travel

Hello, We are planning a trip to China September 15th to 27th, 2008. The place we want to visit is Beijing, Shanghai and Guilin. We will use train as our main mean of getting around and I have a few questions concerning train travel in China. 1. Is it easy to book train tickets for hard sleeper through a travel company or i have to buy it at the station. 2. Will my bunks be garanteed with my ticket? 2. Does buying a hard sleeper ticket guarantee that you will have a reserved bunk (and is the bunk no. on your ticket.) 3. Will the ticket be in Chinese only? 4. is there a problem to find the right platform for my train. thanks

No 1. Some foreigners have reported firece competions for train tickets in China but that only happens during peak traffic period. The two most crowded travel perios is the National Holiday from Oct 1- 7 and the Chinese new Year holiday, when huge population is on travel. Getting around during the rest of the year is more easy and tickets is often not hard to buy except some popular routes such as train to Guangzhou, Beijing. Booking through a travel agency will save you a lot of trouble and your booking is often guaranteed.
2. yes, your bunk is guaranteed.
3. Train tickets are only in Chinese.
4. Most train stations have english signs and departure of train and baording platform are broadcasted in both Chinese and english. you won's miss it.
